Martin Margiela

I have recently come across designs of Maison Martin Margiela, and I have to admit, even though this collection doesn't involve any printed pattern, the simplicity of the garments works so well. The tunic dresses with high shoulders and figure hugging waist bands. The simple colour of the fabric adds to the impact of the designs making them more bold and defined. To me its the stiffness of the collection that draws you in, as though the fabric is wrapped around the models. Oh imagine how warm they would be in this weather! I also really like how definate the folds are to create irregular contours within the fabric, there must be a lot of starch in that fabric!

To say that I hadn't heard of Margiela before, I can say it now proudly that he creates dynamic designs and an overwhelming impact through his collections. I am certainly a follower.

Let it snow

Yes I know I've gone a bit crazy with the videos in these last few post, but this one is firstly quite funny and secondly its just amazing ! So its a train plowing through the snow, but just concentrate when the train gets near the camera, and the impact of the train on the snow.

Extreme Sports?

No, Im not into extreme sports, I wish I was, but to be honest with you I really don't have the courage to. But just take alook at the view this guy gets! All of the grids of the buildings on the ground. Imagine drawing them and keeping track of which section you have just drawn! See this is what I think relates to my work well. Take a look at the plan on the ground. There are thicker, denser areas of lines but then thinner roads that lead off to no where that are in some way non existence: but in the whole picture make it look very dynamic.

Plato's Atlantic

Ok, so ive found the cat walk to Alexander McQueen's: Plato's Atlantic. The video it self just sets the whole mood and approach to his collection. Very mysterious and dangerous, but i also like how he combined the camera to show the models showing the garments at close up when on the run way. Such a genius! Take a look, is a work of art alone, without the collection.

Autumn Beauty

Looking through Vogue the other day. As you do! I came across this beautiful dress by Etro. Studying textiles I'm always interested in the fabric but this is just gorgeous: All the patterned college-prints are different in so many ways of varying colour and form yet they all go together so well. Such a simple, yet so elegant, design as the maxi dress extends and flows all the way down to the ground. My favorite element is that all the designs within the stripes are block colours of simple shapes; these designs really influence and emphasise my style; as well as being made from chiffon, with such a simple design I really feel that they are affective. The colour really expresses the bohemian beauty of the dress in all the autumnal colours. I can't take my eyes off it.

New Inspiration

When visiting home the other day, as you do, I went to a gardening centre with my mum. I honestly would have been bored out of my head if it wasn't for the vast range exotic fish. You don't realise how amazing and technical their scales and colours are until close. Its interesting how definite their marks are and how you could take these interpretations onto material. Imagine the colours on the dress! Just wow! I really want to concentrate on the undiscovered world of the sea in a project! Imagine how technology could be used to enhance those vibrant colours and even define the lines. I guess you could say this is on the lines of Alexander McQueen's~; Plato's Atlantic, which I've already commented on, but still he deserves to be mentioned again on his idealistic designs. He is one of the best.

Architecture

Ok so I did some work, and it really works well with my drawing style. I really hate describing but if I had to comment I feel that the different thicknesses of lines works really well to create a dynamic, busy, but formal image. Even though it looks simplistic, at the same time it is very compact and over worked in areas.

My wonderful world

So I got out of the house and wanted to get some new sources of inspiration for my work. Now I know you should look at different subjects for your work to get a variety of work, but I just love the interconnecting links that can be shown in architecture - especially the production of it with scaffolding! Ill put up some of my work as soon as I've got some good ones to show. Cant wait!

Alexander McQueen

I don't even want to give this post any other name but the magnificent designers name that is Alexander McQueen. He has yet again 'wow'd' the world in his Ready to wear 2010 Spring/Summer collection of Plato's Atlantis with not just his amazing creation for fashion, but the film of the naked model: Raquel Zimmermann. She conveyed this sexual yet daring image of her lying in the sand with snakes all over her. By setting this very modern and alternative mood with the large run way with digital camera on either side, this was in it self a work of art. Being a textile student my self who is very interested in digitally printed pattern, I absolutely adore this collection. Reflecting this intense and modern film the designs feature a snake like digital print of yellows and browns as well well as moving through to greens and bright blues. The silhouette of the dresses really define the top of the body with a nipped waist line to allow a range of skirts from bell shaped, layers of material and some which just went straight down to really show off the models lean figure. Dominant in the word that comes into my mind, even the hair reflected this image of a deadly snake. I even like how his inspiration came from the diminishing ecological climate: his thinking that we all might be living under the water water at the rate that the polar ice caps are melting. Winter Spirit

Walking to University today I was suddenly hit by the overwhelming bitter cold of winter! Now i have to admit, I used to hate this time of year when younger, wouldn't you just prefer to be inside next to the fire watching a film? However, I have come to embrace this time of year with open arms. The colours around you are so rich - its the warm fashion that gets me excited. Those big knitted jumpers, sturdy boots which will take you through thick and thin. OH HOW I LOVE WINTER!

Bring on mass market!

Bring on the Rock Chick! To this day I have always obsessed over those grundge boots and military style jackets, but Christopher Decarnin's, Balmain Spring 2010 collection is to DIE FOR! It brings out a side of you that just wants to be a badly behaved party girl who looks sexy in those tight PVC trousers. Apealing to all style-lovers, he has carried this look forward by mixing padded shoulders with sequins. Before this, I would have said that it was a big 'no no', however with his excellence in using the right colours and authentic look of sequins he succesfully pulls off this naughty military look.

Heard of Hannah Hedman?

I have recently discovered Hannah Hedman's very imaginative pieces of jewellery. Even though not a garment to be worn, they are works of art in themselves. I adore very structured pieces of design and her work certainly hits that criteria. Even if an abstract design or something more distinct, like the branches of a tree, these pieces are one of a kind! I would certainly wear these statement pieces of jewellrey. They are different and just asking for attention!

Check Me

I Love Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2010 Ready to Wear collection, it is new and inventive; it is the freshness of Spring that gives designers a new palette! Fresh and neutral use of simple components which work well together have given his collection a new start. The irregular cut of the dress soften the design making the garment look more rounded through the way the slits are placed at the front of the dress. By showing elements of the bare flesh, this embodies the sense of a new start. Just looking at the designs is a pleasing emotion, with their eye catching prints which attract your eyes all the way down the dress. For me, the structure of the garment itself is beautiful. Construction comes to mind in the way the dresses are built up by sections of material and areas which have been left for flesh to show. I honestly believe that just looking at this collection is hard to describe; it is just so aesthetically pleasing but as the same time inventive!

Bright and Beautiful!

Yes! Mulberry are celebrating with their new collection of bright and beautiful colours. The emphasis of pattern next to block colours electrifies the purple yellow, red, and blues. The element of a horses head creating the pattern is used within different scales to differentiate the visual sense of shape or colour in the garment. Depending on which garment you are looking at you will either focus on colour or shape. The simple, wide neck playsuits work well with the whole collection to bring to life the start of spring, with an overall sophisticated but casual look. To say that you didn't like Mulberry's Spring/Summer 2010 Ready to wear collection would be a lie, this vibrant new colour is what is needed for a fresh beginning.
